About Us
We are a small dog rescue group run by a small number of rescuers and fosters. We care about saving the dogs from euthanasia and the gas chamber. We strive to place our rescues in loving homes where both owner and dog are happy. Some of these dogs have been through some terrible situations and traumas and others are simply the family pet that gets surrendered to the local pound through no fault of their own. We try to be equal in the dogs that we pull for rescue but the ones on deathrow will always get our attention first. The majority of dogs that end up on deathrow are there simply due to lack of space, not because they are bad dogs. We try to save as many as we can but we are a small group so we can only save what the fosters can keep at one time. If you are interested in fostering, please contact us for more information. More fosters mean more lives saved.
This is Tush. He is one of my recent rescues. He was hit by a car in 2009 and it broke his back. The person that had him took him to the vet and they advised to put him down. She disagreed and took him home and nursed him back to health. She could not afford surgery and I honestly don't know if it would have made a difference or not. She got to the point where she could not care for him any longer due to her work hours so I agreed to take him. He recovered except for his back legs. He can stand up partially for about 3 seconds but that is mainly because he uses his stomach muscles to hold himself up. He cannot control his urine or bowels and he wears a diaper part of the time and especially at night. He gets 2 to 3 rump only baths a day. But through all of this, he has maintained a wonderful zest for life, and he is full of spunk. He has stuffed toys he plays with and he plays with the the other dogs and scoots around on his tush (hence the name Tush) almost as fast as a dog that has use of all 4 legs. I fell in love with him from the first day I had him. He is so full of life and doesn't seem to realize that he is just a little bit different from the other dogs. I recently was donated a wheelchair from a wonderful person and we are in the process of getting it adjusted to his body and will see if he likes it. Every dog deserve a chance at life and Tush is an excellent example of that.
This is Baby Girl. She is a yorkie that I rescued a couple of years ago from a puppy mill. She had been living in a cage pumping out babies for 4 long years. She bit me the first time I picked her up and was so terrified that the first couple of months would run from me if I got near her. She has terrible patellas (kneecaps) on her back legs and so her knees are permanently bent. She can not stand up straight and she scuttles like a crab when she runs or walks. I was assured that she is not in pain but that surgery is not an option after all of these years. Imagine being pregnant and raising babies for years in a small wire cage with bent back legs. The weight of pregnancy must have been horrible for her every time she was bred. She is terrified of men, thunderstorms and new experiences. When I first brought her home, she tried to sleep in the food bowl, that is what a lot of puppymill dogs do, because it is more comfortable than the wire cage they are kept in. I gave her a nice, plush dog bed and she literally did not leave that bed for the first few days except to eat or go potty. She has grown to love me but is still pretty much terrified of anyone else. She likes to sit and watch me but does not like to be held. She will sit next to me in the bed or on the couch for hours, but will not sit on my lap. She has never known affection and it is so sad to think of all of the other puppymill dogs out there that are being kept just like she was, day after day, year after year.

So please don't support the puppy mills out there, only adopt rescue or shelter dogs. I know little fluffy puppies are sooo cute, but are they really worth the torture that the parents of these cute little puppies go through?
THE FIRST RESCUE I CAN REMEMBER WAS WHEN I WAS 9 OR 10 YEARS OLD AND A CAT SHOWED UP ON OUR DOORSTEP ON A SNOWY WINTER NIGHT. MY MOTHER TOOK HER IN AND SHE LIVED WITH US FOR SEVERAL YEARS BEFORE SHE PASSED AWAY. I HAVE BEEN RESCUING ANIMALS EVER SINCE.

THERE WAS THE LITTLE GERMAN SHEPHERD MIX PUPPY THAT MY HUSBAND FOUND DUMPED OUT ON THE ROAD. HE BROUGHT HER HOME AND WE NAMED HER CHANCE. SHE WAS LITERALLY ONE OF THE BEST DOGS WE HAVE EVER HAD. WE HAD A CAT NAMED SITA FOR YEARS, AND CHANCE AND SITA WOULD SLEEP CURLED UP TOGETHER EVERY NIGHT. CHANCE WAS WITH US FOR 9 WONDERFUL YEARS UNTIL SHE DIED OF A TUMOR.

THERE WAS THE BEAGLE THAT I FOUND RUNNING TOWARDS A BUSY STREET. I STOPPED AND PICKED HIM UP. WE TRIED TO FIND THE OWNER BUT NO LUCK. WE DECIDED TO KEEP HIM BUT HE HOWLED EVERYNIGHT AND GOT EVERYONE ELSE TO HOWLING. MY HUSBAND TOOK HIM TO THE LOCAL POUND AND THEY TOLD HIM THEY WOULD KEEP HIM 3 DAYS AND THEN HE WOULD BE PUT DOWN. SO, HE BROUGHT HIM BACK HOME. WE SEARCHED UNTIL WE FOUND A BEAGLE RESCUE THAT WOULD TAKE HIM IN. HE WAS PLACED WITHIN THE WEEK IN A NEW HOME IN THE COUNTRY.

THERE WAS THE SCHNAUZER I FOUND IN THE STREET.  I TOOK HER HOME. WE CALLED THE LOCAL SHELTER TO TELL THEM WE HAD HER IF ANYONE CALLED. SHE HAD GOTTEN OUT OF HER OWNERS FENCE AND THEY WERE FRANTIC. SHE WAS REUNITED WITH THEM THE NEXT DAY. THEY WERE VERY THANKFUL SHE HAD BEEN SAVED FROM BEING RUN OVER BY A CAR.

THERE WAS THE POODLE THAT I FOUND IN THE MIDDLE OF A 4 LANE ROAD. ALL OF THESE CARS WERE STOPPED IN ONE LANE AND KEPT GOING AROUND SOMETHING IN THE ROAD. WHEN I GOT UP TO WHERE I COULD PASS THIS "OBJECT", I SAW IT WAS A LITTLE POODLE TYPE DOG HUNKERED DOWN, SCARED AND SHAKING. I DID A U-TURN AND WENT BACK AND WHEN I STOPPED A FEW FEET AWAY AND CALLED TO HIM, HE CAME RUNNING AS FAST AS HE COULD. HE WAS DIRTY AND MATTED. I TOOK HIM HOME AND GAVE HIM A BATH AND GROOMED HIM. I TRIED TO FIND HIS OWNER BUT NO LUCK. HE WENT INTO A RESCUE GROUP AND WAS PLACED IN HIS FOREVER HOME WITHIN THE FIRST FEW WEEKS.

THEN THERE WAS THE REALLY OLD HUSKY MIX THAT SHOWED UP AT MY GATE ONE DAY. WE LIVE IN THE COUNTRY AND HAVE A FENCE AROUND OUR PROPERTY. WE CAME HOME ONE DAY AND HE WAS JUST SITTING THERE. WE OPENED OUR GATE AND HE CAME RIGHT ON IN AND LAYED DOWN BY OUR PORCH LIKE HE HAD ALWAYS LIVED HERE. HE WAS SKINNY, MATTED AND NOT IN REAL GREAT SHAPE. WE TOOK HIM TO OUR VET AND SHE CHECKED HIM OUT, GAVE HIM HIS SHOTS AND PRONOUNCED HIM OLD, WITH ARTHRITIS BUT FAIRLY HEALTHY, ALTHOUGH SOMEWHAT MALNOURISHED. HE SHOWED UP IN AUGUST SO WE NAMED HIM AUGUSTUS. WE GAVE HIM HIS OWN FUTON MATTRESS IN THE GARAGE TO SLEEP ON AND PLENTY OF FOOD AND WATER AND LOVE. HE LIVED FOR 2 MONTHS AND THEN QUIETLY PASSED AWAY.
I DON'T KNOW WHY HE SHOWED UP AT OUR GATE OR HOW HE KNEW TO COME TO OUR HOUSE. I LIKE TO THINK THAT HE SENSED THAT HE WOULD BE LOVED AND TAKEN CARE OF HERE TILL HIS TIME CAME.

THERE HAVE BEEN MANY OTHER RESCUES OVER THE YEARS BUT THOSE ARE SOME THAT STAND OUT MORE THAN OTHERS. I JUST CAN'T PASS UP A DOG IN NEED, I HAVE TO TRY TO HELP IT NO MATTER WHAT.
